What is Safguarding?

Safeguarding is a policy that all organisations who have any contact with children must undertake. This means they have a responsibility to report any concerns for children's welfare/care to the appropriate authority. this applies to anyone under the age of 18. If there are concerns about a child they can be referred on and investigated to ensure the child is safe from the risk of abuse and neglect. If you have concerns about yourself or others please report these to a teacher as soon as possible. If you feel you or others are at risk of abuse or neglect this should be reported as soon as possible.

Modern Day Slavery

There are an estimated 20.9 Million people trapped in some form of slavery today. It’s sometimes called “Modern Slavery” and sometimes “Human Trafficking." At all times it is slavery at its core. Trafficking of persons means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat of, or use of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability. It also includes the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation.

What is CSE?

Child sexual exploitation known as CSE for short, is a form of sexual abuse where offenders use their power – whether physical, financial, or emotional – over the child to sexually or emotionally abuse them.

Victims may not realise they are being exploited. Or they may feel they have no choice but to be abused. It’s not their fault and it’s not okay.

Victims will often be tricked by offenders into thinking that they are in a normal loving relationship in order to gain their trust, before being emotionally and sexually abused.

What is FGM?

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a procedure where the female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed, but where there's no medical reason for this to be done. It's also known as "female circumcision" or "cutting", and by other terms such as sunna, gudniin, halalays, tahur, megrez and khitan, among others. FGM is usually carried out on young girls between infancy and the age of 15, most commonly before puberty starts. It is illegal in the UK and is child abuse. It's very painful and can seriously harm the health of women and girls. It can also cause long-term problems with sex, childbirth and mental health.
